The NetPositiveLifeApp has been created as a free resource by Better Century so that anyone can plan their life to align with global goals for nature and climate. By 2030, globally, we need to halve our carbon emissions as well as our impact on nature. This web-based application allows a user to log their selection of over 80 actions to take between now and 2030, to halve their impact on nature and climate against an average UK citizen.
This exercise allows a user to prove that their choices allow them to be part of the solution to the climate and nature crisis, and not part of the problem. By having access to curated resources to offer support, whilst giving indicative costs and cost savings of each decision, this application truly guides a user. Your dashboard (see example) shows you how far you’ve got, giving you cumulative savings in carbon, ecological footprint, financial savings and financial costs, as well as how much you have saved future generations against economic impacts of your choices.
Once created, a plan aims to provide peace to the user. It removes anger and a sense of helplessness in face of this challenge. Users can say ‘I have done everything in my control’. Users can share their plan to encourage others, and we platform users here on the app, so others can understand the power of individual choices.
Organisations can also use the app as part of their engagement strategies. Organisational users can create their own plan as part of a wider group, and can allow for their summary data to be seen by other users in that group, so to facilitate competition and conversation. This can work for a family, community group, charity or a company. The organisation can set goals and everyone can contribute. For companies we provide the app for employee engagement as part of their sustainability strategy.
The NetPositiveLifeApp has been created using the best science available. The baseline carbon and nature footprint has been compiled from best analysis and then built from the bottom up breaking down areas of impact across an individual’s life. Each action, similarly, has been evidenced and pulled according to lifecycle assessments and/or data compiled by credible organisations. We don’t expose the full analysis on all actions, but are happy to provide how we compiled the data around any individual actions, upon request. Simply email netpositivelife@bettercentury.org.
